While the heroine of our story is strong and beautiful, she carries many hidden burdens. She pours out from every reserve within herself, and rarely stops to refill. Thank goodness we serve a God who is a fount of living water springing up so we never run completely dry. It’s a funny thing about Motherhood. It is so very common, so every-day, and yet it is more holy and profound than all the wonders of the world. The stereotype for “Momma” is often “soft, tender, and delicate.” It’s the picture the world likes to paint of the woman who is most precious in our early lives. But we Mommas know better.  In actuality– God made us to be fierce, resilient warriors. Our battles are physical (just tell me labor isn’t… I dare you), emotional, and spiritual. And they are all too often fought alone.

While the heroine of our story is strong and beautiful, she carries many hidden burdens. I connect with thousands of women daily, and the common thread they unveil is loneliness. They pour out from every reserve within themselves, and rarely do they ever stop to refill. Thank goodness we serve a God who is a fount of living water springing up so we never run completely dry.

As followers of Christ and daughters of the Most High God, we need to pursue relationship with our Heavenly Father daily (minute by minute, perhaps?). The more of His truth we receive into our spirits, the more whole we will live, the more lovingly we will serve, and the brighter our light will shine upon those in our lives.

As the Father revealed Jesus more and more to his mother Mary, she was careful to remember everything that was shown to her and keep it close in her heart. Mary would bring to mind these trinkets of insight and encouragement as she lived her day-to-day life as Jesus’ mother, and they gave her hope for what was to come.

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.”

Luke 2:19

Likewise, we Mommas must take the promises of God and treasure them, meditating on them every day, so we will stand ready and full of truth on the days we need it most.

Here are 15 powerful scriptures that every Momma should tuck into her heart. May they uplift you and encourage you in your walk of faith and your service in this life.

 1) “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.Isaiah 40:11

Mothers have a very special place in the heart of God. He gives us extra help and care. Not only does He personally carry our babies when we need help, but He is faithful to lead us as long as we are willing to follow.

Bring this to mind when it feels like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. There is one who is greater and He will lighten the load if you seek Him.

2) “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” Isaiah 66:13

When you are feeling as if you are the one tending to the emotional needs of your family and no one is left to care for you, remember that God Himself will comfort you. He is able to meet you at your place of greatest need and fill the spaces where others may fall short.

3) “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord… Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the [woman] whose quiver is full of them. They will not be ashamed.” Psalm 127:3-5

At times motherhood can be almost unbearably hard. When the days are long and our patience is short, we can take heart knowing that our children are indeed a gift from God.

Even though this moment may be beyond challenging, our children will bring us joy and honor if we stay faithful in raising them. Be grateful, even in the hard times, for there are women who would give anything to trade their empty arms for our trials.

4) “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

This is so encouraging for the Momma whose child is in a bad place. We can rest-assured that if we raise them in the ways of the Lord, they may go through phases of rebellion (Lord knows we do too), but the Lord is faithful to draw their hearts back to Him. When our children are old they will not depart from their Father in Heaven.

5) “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

As much as we may want to, we simply cannot control everything—including, at times, our children. We have a tendency to “do” and “fix” and “help” when sometimes the best thing we can do is to be still. Let’s commit our children to God in prayer, asking for His intervention and His wisdom, and let Him be their God.

6) “Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.” Genesis 21:19

Single Mommas, this one is for you. After Abraham sent Hagar away with her son Ishmael, she cried out to God and He answered her. He provided for her, and for her son. You are never, never, never alone. God takes a special interest in you and your circumstances. Cry out to Him, seek Him, and depend on Him. He will make beauty from your ashes.

7) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

Mommas often have incredible instincts, but they do not trump the wisdom of God. We must seek Him daily so our instincts will honor Him and be infused with His wisdom.

8) “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:22

Every mother experiences seasons of grief and many face some of the most heart-wrenching sorrow there is. God’s will is not for this grief to last forever. It may remain for be a season, but there will be joy again. Hold on to that promise, grieve before the throne of God, and receive healing and comfort from Him in your time of sorrow.

9) “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear.  I will help you.’” Isaiah 41:14

There are times when a mother has to beat back fear and worry with every fiber of her being. Fight the good fight, Momma. Do not give in to a spirit of fear. God will help you and lead you to safety. Do not entertain worry, but instead seek peace from the Holy Spirit.

10) “The Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.  For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him.”   Isaiah 30:18

In the midst of our hard days, our loneliness, and our struggles, we must remember that God has compassion for us. He sees every detail, every sacrifice, every burden, every effort, and He wants to show us kindness. We can soldier on with the knowledge that He will reward us when we are patient and trust that He’ll come through for us.

11) “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17

Sometimes as a mother, we just don’t have the answers. Those can be terrifying moments if we are depending on our own resources to solve whatever dilemma has presented itself. What a relief that we can seek the wisdom of heaven from the Creator of the universe and He will be faithful to show us the way.

12) “The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:18

Every single one of us will experience a broken heart when it comes to our children, whether they cause an offense or we grieve for something that happens to them. We don’t have to carry that grief alone. God stays so close in those moments, and we can press into Him. He cares tremendously about our pain and will rescue us when we are defeated. Seek Him, Momma. Don’t try to carry the burden on your own. Allow your Heavenly Father to draw near and dry your tears.

13) “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

There are times when we, as mommas, have to wait. It can be grueling and we usually have a long list of things we would rather be doing, but there is no better investment of our time than waiting on the Lord. His plans and purposes will prevail.

14) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Prayer is a mother’s absolute best friend. Fight the battles that come with Motherhood on your knees, not with your fists or your lips. In all things, lay anxiety aside and seek God first. A blessing of peace will come upon you that can be received no other way.

15) “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9

Don’t give up, Momma! When you’re tired and your efforts seem fruitless, remember that the harvest is coming. Ask the Lord to renew your strength, keep going, and you will not believe what is in store for you. Most certainly, it will be too wonderful to behold.

Momma, you are not alone, though at times you feel lonely. Your Heavenly Father is ever so near, and there are literally thousands of other woman facing the same challenges, and fears, and hurts right this very moment. DO NOT let the enemy isolate you in your struggles.

Receive truth into your heart through the Word of God, know you are precious and irreplaceable, and let us encourage one another and pray for each other daily as we carry out the most magnificent calling there is to fulfill.

XXXOOO,
