The 36 Book Exchange on FACEBOOK Explained!

Have you guys seen that post going around Facebook talking about a holiday children’s book exchange? It’s been all over the place and there’s a lot of confusion about– so I’m hoping to clear it all up! This post explains the good and the bad and has an easy-to-understand drawing of how you (could) end up with 36 books and only buy 1!

First of all— it’s not a scam unless your friends are scammers! 😉 Just make sure you do this with people you know, like, and trust. The results depend 100% on the follow-through of your friends and their friends.

How does it work?

If you participate— you’ll get a note/post/PM/email like this:

Welcome to our book exchange for kids! Here’s how it works:

1) Send out ONE book to child #1 below.

2) Remove that child’s name from #1; then move child #2 to that spot (spot number 1!)

3) Then add your child’s name to #2 with your info (name & address)

4) Then send this info to 6 moms or moms-to-be (or grandmothers, or anyone who may be interested!) with the updated name info.

5) Copy the book exchange request that I posted on my wall, to your own wall, or re-word it if you’d like.

**If you cannot complete this within 1 week please notify me, as there are children who are participating and are waiting for their own special books to arrive.

A manila envelope will work to mail the book. Or, you might want to order directly from a web-based book service(Amazon, Barnes & Noble), which saves a trip to the post office like I did!!!! So easy! Soon your child should receive 36 books! What a deal, 36 books for giving just one!

Be sure to include your child’s name and address (age/sex if necessary). Seldom does anyone drop out because you know children love to read and have books read to them Your child should begin receiving books in about 2 weeks!!

#1. CHILD’S NAME (age/gender) 1234 Street, City, State, ZIP

#2. DIFFERENT CHILD’S NAME (age/gender) 5678 Street, City, State, ZIP

Just to recap: send your book to #1, move the name in spot #2 to spot # 1, add your munchkin’s info to spot #2. The people you find will send books to kiddo #1, and their friends will send a book to your kiddo and so on…

Let’s say you were joining my friends’ book exchange—-

Basically— you would buy ONE book for my friend’s little girl. Literally– order through amazon, it ships straight to them. Done.

The hard(est) part— then you find 6 other people to participate. They would be sending books to my daughter, Lorelai, and their 6 friends will send books to your child(ren). If everyone participates– you end up with up to 36 books after buying one.

BOTTOM LINE:

I figure— absolute worst case scenario— I bought a book for someone else and made their child happy and I get nothing but the joy of knowing some little one squealed opening a surprise in the mail. 🙂 Not altogether terrible.

What will probably happen: I buy ONE book and we end up with a few new ones sent to us for our library. FUN!

What could happen: I buy one book and we add 36 new books to our library! (Oh happy day! I will read so much more with this many to choose from! LMBO)

I hope this helps!
