Thoughts of an expectant mom | Soon to me mom | Christian mom | Third trimester mom | How to balance everything as a mommy | Christian mom blogger

Shower pic baby bump Jan 18 2015Now that we are about 4 weeks out from our baby girl being born, the question that I get asked on an (almost) daily basis is, “Are you nervous??”

I think it’s a good question. I remember asking it myself to many an expectant mother. And it’s interesting… the things I am thinking about just a few weeks away from becoming a first time (biological) mom aren’t what I thought they would be. I’m not afraid of labor (I’m also not delusional… my dad always says, “If you’re not a little scared, you don’t understand what’s about to happen to you.”), I’m not worried about parenting since, Praise God, the Holy Spirit dwells in me and will show me all things, I’m not afraid of the great responsibility a child is because I already take being a human being on the planet to be a profound responsibility… No… the main question on this woman’s mind is likely the question that is on many folks’ minds: How will I keep everything in balance?

It’s something I will really have to trust God to guide me on in the weeks and months to come as I continue to keep God first place, work full time from home, take care of a newborn, keep house, make sure my hubby gets plenty of attention, tend to my pets, and help my stepdaughters assimilate to their new sibling. Phew… When I think about it in the flesh it can feel very overwhelming and unmanageable. Whether you’re facing an enormous life event like me, or you’re trying to achieve balance with what you’ve already got—- we have to remember not to focus on the mountain of “things” that need our attention. This is the time for us to remember the story of Mary and Martha:

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.  And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.  But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

LUKE 10:38-42 NKJV

Here’s what I know about my God… He’s in the business of order and He’s an expert multi-tasker. If we keep Him first place, and sit at His feet daily, HE will bring balance to everything else. He’ll guide us. He’ll instruct us. He’ll bring us everything we need. Thank goodness we don’t have to figure it all out and have all the answers. Only one thing is needed…

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
